When it comes to Chinese New Year, PP would think of the first destination of the year. In 2003, we decided to go back to Thailand and hit the island where we went for our first trip together in 2001 - Koh Samet (Not Samui) It is rather close to BKK, only about 3.5hr bus ride + 40 mins boat ride (See how to go). We remembered the last time we were here, there were hardly any tourists, and people even had to prepare for their own water simply because the waster was too expensive on the island. This time, we found a store which PP indicate as "Civilization" came into the island - 7-11. Even tho there're more tourists on the island now, but we still enjoyed out time there.
After Koh Samet, we went to Chiang Mai, and joined a local tour. We saw a lot, including elephants, monkeys, orchids...etc. I did enjoyed the bamboo raft, it was relaxing, no crocodile involved, good.
- How to go: When in BKK, take the BTS to Ekamai Station, once get off the station, you'll see the Eastern Bus Terminal. Look for the ticket booth for Koh Samet / Ban Phe and ask for ticket to Koh Samet, you'll get a set tickets including boat tickets (About 200B/person for one way, you can also get return tickets at the same time.) If you are not comfortable buying set tickets, you can just buy the bus ticket to Ban Phe. About 3.5hr, the bus will stop at the final stop, and that would Baan Pae Pier. Just follow everyone and you'll get the boat. About another 40 mins, you'll see Koh Samet in front of you!
- BTW, Koh Samet is a National Park, so an extrance fee is required, about 350B per person.
每到過年，PP就會開始蠢蠢欲動: "今年過年要去哪?" 2003年的過年，PP決定去2001年時第一次一起旅行的國家-泰國，並且再回到留給我們美好經驗的小島: 沙美島(Koh Samet，不是蘇美島)。Koh Samet算是離曼谷最近的一個島嶼，只需搭3個半小時的巴士+40分鐘的船就可以到(見如何去)。想當初2001年去的時候，幾乎沒有甚麼觀光客，看到大家都得先買水準備好，因為島上的水太貴了。這次再度造訪，見到PP所謂"文明"的商店7-11近駐! 當然有好有壞，雖然觀光客變多了，不過我們還是很享受在個小島上的悠閒生活。Koh Samet之後，PP坐飛機來到了清邁，並且參加了套裝行程，看了大象、猴子、蘭花......點點點，不過蠻享受的是有一趟竹筏之旅，很輕鬆愜意。
- 如何去:在曼谷搭乘BTS到Ekamai，一下站就會看到Eastern Bus Terminal，找到去Koh Samet/Ban Phe的售票亭說要去Koh Samet，他就會給你套票(車票+船票，約近200B/人單趟)，如果你不放心買套票，你可以直接買到Ban Phe，發車約一個小時一班。約三個半小時車程，巴士的終點站就是Baan Pae碼頭，跟著大家走，你就會走到坐船的地方，約莫40分鐘，Koh Samet就會在你眼前了。
- 順道一提，Koh Samet是一個國家公園，所以要進去要入場費350B (不知道有沒有漲價)
